Naval Group invested capital in the joint venture (JV) cortAIx in February 2026. This collaboration with Thales is allowing the group to accelerate the development and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into its vessels, while preserving the sovereignty of algorithms and the confidentiality of data. Interview with Clément and Jean-Guillaume, two employees who volunteered to join the cortAIx JV.

What were your activities within Naval Group and why did you decide to join the cortAIx JV?

Clément : “I joined Naval Group in 2020 as a data scientist. The cortAIx JV has robust tools and processes. I think this collaboration is a success for all involved: Naval Group is a prime contractor for naval defence, while the cortAIx JV specialises in developing solutions incorporating AI, which is an accelerator for Naval Group.”


Jean-Guillaume : “I joined Naval Group almost three years ago, assigned to DevOps. I was responsible for the development of environments and platforms for ship maintenance assistance programs. The JV really is at the forefront of technology! Our mantra, moreover, is “We are moving at the world’s pace,” which sums up the spirit of this joint venture perfectly.”


How was your integration into the cortAIx JV? Did you take any special training? 

C. : “For my current role as AI Solution Architect I received one and a half month’s training in the JV’s practices, allowing me to practice on the first use cases.”

J.-G. : “I upskilled very quickly upon arrival. The cortAIx JV raises the bar in terms of technologies. So much so, in fact, that project development phases are calibrated between 3 and 9 months.”

Which projects are you working on?

C. : “We are working on two use cases for Naval Group. The first is to assist the operator in the vessel’s aerial activity surveillance, while the second relates to the classification of vessels and aircraft in the domain of close-range protection.”

J.-G. : “I'm also working on these topics. My role is to create and manage a cloud environment capable of hosting the programs under development, which will be powered by data provided by employees.”
