Naval drones: our indispensable allies

The battles of tomorrow will be drone-intensive, connected and collaborative. Naval Group, with its expertise in submarine weapons systems, also therefore offers solutions to meet customers’ needs in terms of drones and autonomous naval systems: multimission, autonomous or remotely operated, and easily integrated into fleets.

The group’s drones and autonomous systems product portfolio is structured around four product lines according to an incremental approach: an initial range of simple and robust products delivering rapid operational added value, with the scope for developing their capability and performance. Designed for missions contributing to the control of our maritime environment, the autonomous systems produced or integrated by Naval Group, whether surface, airborne or underwater, work in tandem with warships and aircraft, fulfilling a wide range of missions, from intelligence to seabed control, as well as controlling access to certain zones.

Steeris® : systèmes

STEERIS ® ON BOARD

Our Steeris ® On Board Controlled Decision-Making Autonomy (ADC®) solution renders a drone autonomous and allows its incorporation into a naval force. It guarantees compliance with a framework and a doctrine defined by a human operator. Steeris® On Board is the “onboard brain” of autonomous naval systems.

STEERIS® MS

Steeris® MS (Mission System) manages the missions of any drone or autonomous system incorporated into a naval force from end to end. It is interfaced with the vessel’s Combat Management System (CMS), as part of naval collaborative combat. Its interface is easy to use and requires only one operator for mission planning, supervision and reporting.

STEERIS® COMMAND

Steeris® Command is a compact containerised solution, which can be deployed on land or on a vessel of opportunity (civilian or military) and is designed to implement and manage the missions of one or more drones. As a true drone control room, this solution incorporates communication, cybersecurity and Steeris ® MS systems.

Seagent®: underwater drones

SEAGENT® M

The Seagent® M is an autonomous underwater system that can be installed onboard a submarine, a surface ship or on land, designed for surface or underwater training, surveillance or intelligence missions. Its modular architecture allows it to incorporate several kinds of payloads and to achieve suitable endurance, speed and manoeuvrability performances in its missions.

SEAGENT® XL

The Seagent® XL is an autonomous underwater combat system that can be operated from a dock or surface ship. Its long endurance and discretion allow it to operate autonomously in hostile environments. The numerous payloads it carries make it a force multiplier within a fleet for offensive and defensive missions.

Seaquest®: surface drones

SEAQUEST® S

Capable of operating alone or in swarms and a solution for native installation onboard a surface ship, the autonomous multi-role surface systems in the Seaquest® S range are an extension of the operational capabilities of a vessel or maritime surveillance measures. This Small model (from 6.5 to 12.5 metres) family of products is developed and marketed by Sirehna, a subsidiary of Naval Group.

SEAQUEST® M AND L

Seaquest® M (format of 15 to 50 metres) and Seaquest® L (format of over 50 metres) are autonomous surface systems meant for long-endurance missions, either alone or in support of a manned vessel. Prepared for combat, they act as a force multiplier within a naval group.

Sealken®

SEALKEN® U-DOCK

A docking system for underwater drones.

SEALKEN® S-DOCK

A docking system for surface drones.

SEALKEN® A-DOCK

A docking system for airborne drones.

Sites in charge of drones

Saint-Tropez and Toulon

The Naval Group site of Saint-Tropez, specialising in the design and production of drones and underwater weapons, produces the F21 heavyweight torpedo that equips French Navy submarines. Located in Toulon, the Lagoubran workshop providessupport for submarine weapons onboard nuclear attack submarines (SSNs) and nuclear ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs).

Teams work on periodic maintenance operations to ensure the availability and reliability of heavyweight combat torpedoes and submarine countermeasures. By also preparing The team furthermore contributes to maintaining and improving the French Navy’s operational excellence by preparing the exercise torpedoes and by participating in crew qualification and training rounds.

Proximity to crews allows Naval Group’s teams to better understand operational needs in order to design future weapons.

La Londe-les-Maures

Naval Group aims to create a centre of excellence for drones, autonomous systems and underwater weapons on the site of Bormettes in La Londe-les-Maures. The key challenges of the program involve reindustrialising a site that has not been used for more than 30 years, to the best environmental standards, strengthening our competitiveness, and improving our attractiveness and our collective efficiency.

This project will make it possible for teams from Naval Group, as well as those from our customer and partner companies, to come together on one and the same site. It provides for the transfer of the group’s drone, autonomous systems and underwater weapons activities.

Apart from the transfer of teams and their activities, the project will enable us to develop our working methods in terms of both tertiary activities and production. The choice of architectural design reflects this desire by creating a modern industrial tool with a functional working environment, designed to promote creativity, collaboration, new ways of working and efficiency.
