In the language of flowers, the cornflower symbolizes "the messenger of all pure and delicate feelings." It is recognized as the flower of remembrance in France. Like the poppy, the cornflower was among the few flowers that continued to grow on the battlefields during the First World War (1914-1918). Its color also recalls the horizon blue uniform of young recruits during the First World War.
