Ready for high-intensity combat

Thanks to its state-of-the-art equipment and systems, the FDI can establish a complete tactical situation (air - surface - submarine) in real time, and simultaneously deal with increasingly stealthy threats, ensuring its superiority at sea. Unconventional threats (drones, jet skis, etc.) that are particularly complex to characterise are also taken into account using optronic systems coupled with artificial intelligence, effective both day and night.

A design that stands the test of the most turbulent seas

Its design and propulsion allow the FDI to sail on all seas around the world, in the most demanding environments. Slicing through waves, the inverted bow guarantees the ship’s stability and speed performance on high seas and in rough seas (navigation tested to force 7, i.e. waves of 6-9 metres). Its segmented lines with sharp edges guarantee a high level of stealth.

Varied and high-impact missions

  • Protection of high-value units (aircraft carrier or helicopter carrier, replenishment vessel, command vessel).
  • Protection of maritime communication routes.
  • Guarding access to areas of interest.
  • Surveillance and protection of exclusive economic zones.
  • Combating trafficking (illegal fishing, drug trafficking, etc.).
  • Support to regions subject to natural disasters.
  • Search and rescue at sea.
  • France’s influence throughout the world.

Life on board organised on a collective basis

The frigate is more than a place of work, it also offers a living environment with dining and relaxation areas called “messes” as well as rest areas with rooms from 2 to 6 beds, a gym, a kitchen equipped with a bakery and a cooperative for the purchase of everyday items.

Always operational, whether in operation or maintenance

The FDI is equipped with workshops dedicated to mechanics and electricity, and digital tools allowing it to carry out maintenance at sea, with the support of Naval Group via secure data links. In dock and during maintenance phases, FDI equipment and systems are designed to be regularly upgraded thanks to its distributed digital architecture.

Upon entry into active service and throughout its operational life (approximately 30 years), the frigate will be able to adapt to both technological developments and new threats. It will therefore always be ready and up to the job!
