Naval Group in Belgium

Naval Group Belgium was created in 2019 after the replacement of Mine Countermeasures (rMCM) program was awarded to Belgium Naval & Robotics, a Naval Group and Exail consortium.

A significant part of the rMCM contract is performed in Belgium, notably the production of certain equipment for the ship and all naval drones. The industrial cooperation plan associated with this contract includes several Belgian partners and participates not only in creating employment in Belgium but to the country’s industrial development as well.
The activities of this wholly-owned Naval Group subsidiary center around developing an ecosystem of excellence and innovation in Belgium, right from R&D to services in the fields of mine countermeasures and naval cybersecurity.

Naval Group Belgium

Naval Group Belgium was created in 2019 after the replacement of Mine Countermeasures (rMCM) program was awarded to Belgium Naval & Robotics, a Naval Group and Exail consortium.

Naval Group, through its subsidiary in Belgium, has opened a centre of excellence and innovation in the field of mine countermeasures and naval cybersecurity. Naval Group Belgium manages two collaborative research laboratories - the MCM Lab and the Cyber Lab - bringing together ecosystems comprising manufacturers and Belgian universities working in close collaboration with the Belgian Defence.

Naval Group Belgium, an active player in several European programs, had also led the MIne RIsk CLearance for Europe (Miricle) consortium, selected by the European Commission to reinforce European capabilities in mine countermeasures and to pave the way for the future generation of Made in Europe countermeasure solutions.

Naval Group’s Belgian subsidiary is also developing its activities in the field of services, spanning the maintenance of the present tripartite mine countermeasures to ensuring operational availability of the future mine warships for its naval customers.

rMCM: the Belgian-Dutch mine countermeasures program

The rMCM program awarded to Belgium Naval & Robotics, a Naval Group and Exail consortium, in 2019, consists in providing the Belgian and Dutch Navies with twelve countermeasure vessels equipped with drone systems (toolbox). These vessels, specialising in mine countermeasures are the first equipped with the capability of embarking and launching a swarm of surface, underwater and aerial drones either into the sea or into the air.

A long-term partnership with the Belgian industry

Over and above the subsidiary’s role of industrial and production prime contractor for the rMCM program, Naval Group Belgium is also building the Belgian defence technological and industrial base (BITD) thanks to the involvement of a large panel of Belgian suppliers and partners right from the design phase to providing ships with operational support.

A vast range of skills, jobs, technologies and products have been developed to support Belgian sovereignty in terms of defence.
