Naval Group in Australia

Naval Group Pacific, Naval Group's subsidiary in Australia, was created in 2019. Dedicated to the commercial and scientific internationalisation of the group, Naval Group Pacific's objective is to become a recognised industrial partner in Australia for research and innovation by accelerating research and development (R&D) achievements.

Naval Group Pacific is a key partner in a broad ecosystem dedicated to open innovation and academic research. In particular, Naval Group Pacific is home to a Centre of Excellence (CoE), engaged in upstream technological research activities. These activities are carried out primarily through the Crossing International Research Laboratory (IRL), launched in February 2021.

The Crossing laboratory

The Crossing laboratory is a collaborative structure between the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Naval Group and leading academic partners, aiming to optimise the benefits of cross-fertilisation of scientific knowledge and industrial innovation, while pursuing a joint research and technology (R&T) strategy in the human-autonomous systems teaming domain. Crossing is also a vehicle for coordinating funding opportunities and collaborative research partnerships.

Naval Group centers of expertise

Naval Group Pacific interacts closely with Naval Group, notably through the Center of Expertise for the Control of Information, Human Factors and Signatures (CEMIS) and the Center of Expertise on Energy and Onboard Power Control (CEMEP). The regular involvement of French colleagues ensures that Australian projects are aligned with the group's operational needs, while preparing for future knowledge transfer. The Australian CoE shares also a simulation plateform bricks development with the CoE of Naval Group Far East, strengthening Naval Group international R&D network.

Naval Group Pacific and the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG)

Defence science research in Australia is led by the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG). The DSTG occupies a unique and strategic position in the defense innovation ecosystem. Naval Group Pacific is working with the DSTG on the Learning from Operational Teaming with Unmanned Systems (Lotus) and Australib projects, which correspond to two of the DSTG's areas of expertise: undersea warfare and energy.

Focus on the Lotus and Lotusim projects

Naval Group Pacific, which aims to provide essential elements for the future use of collaborative combat systems, is leading the Lotus project, which consists of developing scientific knowledge on multi-agent’s human-machine teaming in a complex maritime environment.
In the meantime, the development of a simulation platform (Lotusim) adding the results of real tests, will enable us to accumulate knowledge and raise our technical solutions to higher technology readiness levels (TRL).
